Make your tea<br /><br />You should do everything- from each step of preparing your tea, to sitting down, to drinking your tea, to finishing, and cleaning up- in mindfulness.<br /><br />No matter how you choose to prepare your tea, what tea you drink, where you drink your tea, do so carefully with a complete awareness of the present moment. Give yourself completely to the entire process of preparing and drinking your tea.<br /><br />Once your tea is made, find a nice quiet place for you to sit and drink it. Once you've sat down, take a moment before starting to "simply sit" with your tea.<br /><br />Notice the aroma of the tea, admire the look and color of the tea, and imagine the delicate balance that had to be kept for the tea to go from being a leaf on a tree (likely from another country) to becoming the delightful cup of tea in front of you.<br />2. Give thanks<br /><br />Before you begin drinking, take a moment to give thanks for the cup of tea in front of you.<br /><br />Contemplate for a moment on the fact that people all around the world don't even have clean drinking water, yet you can sit and enjoy an amazing cup of warm tea whenever you so choose.<br /><br />Appreciate the cup of tea and everything that had to happen, and the careful balance that had to be maintained, for you to experience this amazing cup of tea.<br /><br />Express your gratitude for all those things which helped make your cup of tea a reality, and for a moment expand that thought to yourself and the knowledge that you also depend on infinite living and non-living things to exist as you are now in this moment just as the tea does.<br /><br />Sit with those feelings for a minute or two before beginning.<br />3. Drink your tea<br /><br />This is the main event. Your tea has been prepared, you've expressed your appreciation, and now it's time to drink.<br /><br />All you have to do is drink your tea fully with mindfulness. Take it slow, only drinking very small sips at a time. You should be taking your time and really savoring every sip.<br /><br />Specifically, while you drink, your object of concentration can be various things.<br /><br />I often focus my mindfulness on the raising of my arm, and then of the sip, swallowing, then lowering of the arms, and lastly take a few nice deep breaths before taking another sip. This should be cycled throughout the length of the meditation.<br /><br />And as usual, any thoughts, feelings, or sensations that arise while doing each individual activity simply gets gently acknowledged and I proceed to go back to my object of meditation.<br /><br />Fully commit to the act of drinking your tea, whether you're with someone else or alone. Be fully awake for the practice of drinking your tea, understanding that this moment and this tea will never exist again.<br />4. Give thanks (again)<br /><br />Once you're done (again, the length of your meditation is up to you, it could be 10 minutes and it could be one hour), give thanks once again like you did in the beginning.<br /><br />It's important to finish the practice like we started, helping put the tea, and the meditation, in perspective.<br /><br />____________________________<br /><br />This simple tea meditation, which can be done in as little as 10 minutes and as long as one full hour (it's really up to you), has a whole list of great benefits:<br />Cultivate a sense of gratitude and a deep reverence for life<br />Reduce stress and find greater peace and clarity of mind<br />It's a great morning ritual to start your day off with<br />All the benefits of meditating with mindfulness<br />All the health benefits of drinking tea (depends on what tea you drink, but many types of tea are very healthy)<br />Great preparatory as well as supporting practice for your sitting meditation<br />It's great to invite friends and family in on to show them the same benefits and to nurture your relationships</span>

When repressed traumatic memories and events are acknowledged, felt, grieved, and freed, we become RECOVERED. Our child withins channel of consciousness becomes clear so that our truth can flow through us.<br /><br />We’ve all have had moments of recovery. With unusual clarity, we see our truth. The clouds part—and we say ‘aha’! We are at one with all things. Truth is no longer distorted through the filter of the disturbances of our past or the biases of our family and culture. Truth is revealed, clear as a bell, at least for a moment.<br /><br />But sustaining this recovered state is a difficult task. To do so, we must do some work. We are not suggesting that the solution requires endless tedious hours of repetitive prayers or dissociative mediation.  EMOTIONAL RECOVERY in itself is simpler—but much harder.<br /><br />Our solution is to resolve the traumas buried in our unconscious, the traumas that imprison truth and entangle our child within with its inherent creativity. The disturbing dis-respect inflicted on us beginning in earliest childhood, even in the womb of a troubled mother in conflict with a father, which have been absorbed by our child within and must be resolved to our child withins satisfaction so that we may live free, fully and honestly. We must see, feel, and grieve our traumatic history in order to clear our child withins holding bin of dtysfunctioning memory, the unconscious. When the unconscious is clear we become fully recovered.</span>

These troubling experiences usually occur in our childhood, that vulnerable time of life when we were trapped in our situations and when the implications of what we saw and experienced overwhelmed us. To save our sanity and life we held these difficult feelings and experiences for a later time, in hopes that we would become strong enough and authentic enough to bear their emotional impact.<br /><br />It is painful to process anything stored by the child within. But the hardest experiences to process are the betrayals of our parents. It is a sad fact that the people who should have loved and protected us the most instead failed us the most. Yet only a person who has experienced enough adult autonomy and separation from his or her parents can withstand the emotional onslaught of repressed feelings and memories when they emerge. For many it is too much to ask; they become as overwhelmed as they were when they were children.<br /><br />It is important to note that trauma is not all that lives in our unconscious. Also repressed in our mental repository is our full palette of creativity, authenticity, and originality. These gifts were not welcomed in an emotionally constricted family or society. So when the pain of unresolved child within traumas comes out, so too do our positive gifts.<br /><br />But what happens if we don’t process what lives hidden within our child? This holding bin of repressed trauma and thwarted creativity saved us as children but it destroys us as adults. All that lives in our unconscious begins to fester and make its presence known through symptoms—physical or emotional. Here the unconscious rules our life. And can rule our unconscious.<br /><br />Even though symptoms may be painful, they really are our friends—for they tell us that something has gone wrong. Our symptoms tell us that our version of a perfect childhood, or our family’s version of a perfect family, is not true. We begin to suspect that something occurred in our history that has hurt us. Eruptions from the unconscious are really seismic helpers. As painful as they may be, they are an emergence of repressed material that needs our healing, love, and attention. They can save our lives, and our whole lost child. In fact, without them we are lost.</span>

It is healthy to start wondering about the cause and effect dynamics of dissociational escapism in our life. <br /><br />In our dissociation, we react to life out of a black and white, right and wrong, belief paradigm that taught us that is was shameful and bad to be wrong, to make mistakes, to be imperfect - to be human. </span><br /> <span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace; font-size: large;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace; font-size: large;">We formed our core relationship with our self and with life in early childhood based on the messages we recieved, the emotional trauma we suffered, and the role modelling of the adults around us. As we grew up, we built our relationship with self, other people, and life on the foundation we formed in this early childhood. <br /><br />When we were five, we were already reacting to life out of the emotional trauma of earlier childhood experience. We adapted defences to try to protect ourselves and to get our survival needs met. The defences adapted at five due to the trauma suffered at earlier ages led to further trauma when we were seven that then caused us to adjust our defences, that led to deep dissociations in our teenage years<br /><br /><i>Toxic dissociation is the belief that there is something inherently wrong with who we are, with our being. Guilt is "I made a mistake, I did something wrong." The Toxic dissociation is: "I am a mistake. There is something wrong with me." </i><br />It is important to start awakening to the Truth that there is nothing inherently wrong with our child within - it is our relationship with our child within and with our adult life that is dysfunctional. And that relationship was formed in our early childhood. <br /><br />The way that one begins child within consciousness is simply to become aware of our hidden side. <br /><br />To become aware that the governing principle in life is cause and effect.<br /><br />To become aware that our relationship with our self is dysfunctional.<br /><br />To change our awareness that we have the power to understand and change our relationship with our child within.<br /><br />To understand that we were programmed with false beliefs about the purpose and nature of life in early childhood - and that we can change that programming.<br /><br />To allow our child within to acknowledge that we have emotional wounds from childhood that it is possible to get in touch with our child within and to understand to re-connect from the dictating dysfunctional adult that we have become the frozen emotional life we are living  today. <br /><br />That is the purpose of child within solution - to stop letting our experiences of the past dictate how we respond to life today. It cannot be done without re-connecting to our childhood hidden within. <br /><br />We need to become to raise our consciousness. To re-map a new level of consciousness for ourselves that allows us to observe ourselves from the viewpoint of our child within. <br /><br />It is vitally important to start observing ourselves - our reactions, our feelings, our thoughts - from a child within place that is not shaming. <br /><br />We all have developed an inner judgemental critic, a critical parent voice, that beats us up with shame, judgement, and fear. The critical parent voice developed to try to control our emotions and our behaviours because we got the message there was something wrong with us and that our survival would be threatened if we did, said, or felt the "wrong" things. <br /><br />It is vital to start learning how to connect and free ourselves not give power to that critical shaming voice. We need to start observing ourselves with compassion. This is almost impossible at the beginning of our  healing process - having compassion for our self, being Loving to our self, is the hardest thing for us to do.Making gentle contact with our child hidden within paramount<br /><br />So, we need to start to re-connect to our child within ourselves from a neutral perspective of our childhood. Become a child observer, a perfect child within -  of our own inner process as it were. <br /><br />We need to start observing our childhood and asking ourselves where that reaction / thought / feeling is coming from. Why am I feeling this way? What does this remind me of from my past? How old do I feel right now? How old did I act when that happened? <br /><br />One of the amazing things about this process, is that as one starts to become more aware of our own perfect child within, we also start to become more aware of others. We start seeing when the people in our lives are reacting like a little kid, or adolescent, or teenager, or whatever. The more we become aware of their reactions, the easier it becomes to stop taking their behaviour personally - which then makes it easier to detach from our own adult constructed reactions and observe ourselves from our child within viewpoint. <br /><br />It is an amazing, miraculous process, that can help us to change our relationship with our self, with other people, and with life. Becoming more aware, becoming conscious of a new way of looking at ourselves and life is the beginning of a process of learning to forgive and understand our child within that has become trapped within ourselves. </span><br /> <div> <span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace; font-size: large;"> Understanding the mystery of the conscious perfect child within of why we have lived our lives as we have, we can start to free ourselves from our past. By understanding the miracle of child within intact consciousness, we can learn how to really be liberated instead of just surviving and enduring.</span></div>

How do we know that when we are is actually conscious and does it matter? There is no question that the baby is awake. Its eyes are wide open, it wriggles and grimaces, and, most important, it cries. But all that is not the same as being conscious, of experiencing pain, seeing red or smelling Mom's milk.</span><br /> <span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace; font-size: large;"><br />We recognise that we have no awareness of our own state, emotions and motivations. Even as older children we can speak have very limited insight into our own actions. We who have raised a boy is familiar with the blank look on our teenager’s face when we ask him why he did something particularly rash. A shrug and “I dunno—it seemed like a good idea at the time” is the most we’ll hear.<br /><br />Although a newborn lacks self-awareness, the baby processes complex visual stimuli and attends to sounds and sights in its world, preferentially looking at faces. The infant’s visual acuity permits it to see only blobs, but the basic cortical circuitry necessary to support simple visual and other conscious percepts is in place. And linguistic capacities in us are shaped by the environment we grow up in. Exposure to maternal speech sounds in the muffled confines of the womb enables the foetus to pick up statistical regularities so that the newborn can distinguish its mother’s voice and even her language from others. A more complex behaviour is imitation: if Dad sticks out his tongue and waggles it, the infant mimics his gesture by combining visual information with proprioceptive feedback from its own movements. It is therefore likely that the baby has some basic level of inflective, present-oriented consciousness.<br /><br />The Road to our Awareness<br />But when does the magical journey of consciousness begin? Consciousness requires a sophisticated network of highly interconnected components, nerve cells. Its physical substrate, the cortical complex that provides consciousness with its highly elaborate content, begins to be in place between the 24th and 28th week of gestation. Roughly two months later synchrony of the electroencephalographic (EEG) rhythm across both cortical hemispheres signals the onset of global neuronal integration. Thus, many of the circuit elements necessary for consciousness are in place by the third trimester. By this time, pre-term infants can survive outside the womb under proper medical care. And as it is so much easier to observe and interact with a pre-term baby than with a foetus of the same gestational age in the womb, the foetus is often considered to be like a pre-term baby, like an unborn newborn. But this notion disregards the unique uterine environment: suspended in a warm and dark cave, connected to the placenta that pumps blood, nutrients and hormones into its growing body and brain, the foetus is asleep.<br /><br />Invasive experiments in rat and lamb pups and observational studies using ultrasound and electrical recordings in humans show that the third-trimester foetus is almost always in one of two sleep states. Called active and quiet sleep, these states can be distinguished using electroencephalography. Their different EEG signatures go hand in hand with distinct behaviours: breathing, swallowing, licking, and moving the eyes but no large-scale body movements in active sleep; no breathing, no eye movements and tonic muscle activity in quiet sleep. These stages correspond to rapid-eye-movement (REM) and slow-wave sleep common to all mammals. In late gestation the foetus is in one of these two sleep states 95 percent of the time, separated by brief transitions.<br /><br />What is fascinating is the discovery that the foetus is actively sedated by the low oxygen pressure (equivalent to that at the top of Mount Everest), the warm and cushioned uterine environment and a range of inhibitory and sleep-inducing substances produced by the placenta and the foetus itself: adenosine; two steroidal anaesthetics, allopregnanolone and pregnanolone; one potent hormone, prostaglandin D2; and others. The role of the placenta in maintaining sedation is revealed when the umbilical cord is closed off while keeping the foetus adequately supplied with oxygen. The lamb embryo now moves and breathes continuously. From all this evidence, neonatologists conclude that the foetus is asleep while its brain matures.<br /><br />Dreamless Sleep? <br />One complication ensues. When people awaken during REM sleep, they often report vivid dreams with extensive narratives. Although consciousness during dreams is not the same as during wakefulness—most noticeably insight and self-reflection are absent—dreams are consciously experienced and felt. So does the foetus dream when in REM sleep? This is<br />not known. But what would it dream of?<br /><br />After birth, dream content is informed by recent and more remote memories. Longitudinal studies of dreaming in children suggest that dreaming is a gradual cognitive development that is tightly linked to the capacity to imagine things visually and to visuospatial skills. Thus, preschoolers’ dreams are often static and plain, with no characters that move or act, hardly any feelings and no memories. What would dreaming be like for an organism that spends its time suspended in a sort of isolation tank, with no memories, and no way to imagine anything at all? I wager that the foetus experiences nothing in utero; that it feels the way we do when we are in a deep, dreamless sleep.<br /><br />The dramatic events attending delivery by natural (vaginal) means cause the brain to abruptly wake up, however. The foetus is forced from its paradisal existence in the protected, aqueous and warm womb into a hostile, aerial and cold world that assaults its senses with utterly foreign sounds, smells and sights, a highly stressful event.<br /><br /> A massive surge of nor-epinephrine—more powerful than during any skydive or exposed climb the foetus may undertake in its adult life—as well as the release from anaesthesia and sedation that occurs when the foetus disconnects from the maternal placenta, arouses the baby so that it can deal with its new circumstances. It draws its first breath, wakes up and begins to experience life.</span><br /> <div> <span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div> <div> <span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace; font-size: large;"><span style="background-color: #f6f6f7; color: #666666; font-family: "allerta stencil"; font-size: 12px; line-height: 16.8px;">Our conscious mind — believe it or not — is not in charge of our day-to-day behaviour. That claim may seem counter intuitive and contrary to our experience, but it has been demonstrated in controlled experiments time and again. By the time our conscious mind is aware of any particular decision or action, it has already been made or enacted by some other part of our brain.</span></span></div>

And while society recognises the loss that children feel when their parents die, adults are supposed to be fundamentally different, quickly dealing with the grief of losing the people that raised them from the cradle.<br /><br />If only it were that simple. Psychologists warn that the impact of losing your parents goes way beyond organising the funeral and sorting out the will. It might be the natural order of things that parents die before their children, but the sheer inevitability is no cushion to the pain, soul-searching and sheer feeling of rudderlessness that so often follows.</span>

Very often we who have experienced childhood abuse have coped at least in part through some degree of deep dissociation. While this was necessary for our survival then, continued dissociation (especially forms that are apparently not within our control) is not adaptive once the abuse has stopped. Now the task of the ten stages is to help you stay present long enough to learn other means of establishing safety in the present. How does someone with automatic survival skills of dissociation learn to do this? Gentle meditation is one skill that can help.<br /><br />The ten stages does not only consist of telling our story or focusing on childhood memories, though of course that is a part of the student work. Bringing child memories to mind, talking about them in a trusting relationship, and developing the capacities for managing them while staying present in the moment are all crucial parts of our healing process. A premature emphasis on our childhood material can in fact do more harm than good. We may first need to learn and practice a variety of self-care meditational skills that we can then employ during the memory work phase.This we call TRUST and Consent<br /><br />In the past, we were encouraged to speak about our abuse in the belief that this catharsis would be healing.  This instead led to re-traumatisation rather than mastery of the abuse material or healing. In fact, some childhood survivors are able to tell their stories easily, but in a dissociated manner. Because of the risks involved, this healing work is best done with the help of our long-term students who can help us learn to cope with past memories effectively. Our goal is to help us connect to the past while staying in the present.<br /><br />We are focused on a stage approach, which includes early preparation, focus on developing trust and consent and stabilisation.  first phase of the ten stages is safety. How can we experience this if we do not even feel safe within ourself, but at the risk of constant flashbacks? In fact, for many of us it may have felt that there were only two choices available to us historically: abuse or dissociation. We begin by learning trust and consent threw interaction with our child within so that we can be present enough to develop a whole ten stage range of self-care for our child within is crucial to recovery.<br /><br /><br /><br />Contact with our child within is about learning to stay present (or for most of us get present in the first place) in our body in the here and now. It consists of a set of skills/tools to help us identify and manage dissociation and the trauma-induced emotions that lead to it. Processing done from a  dissociated state is highly useful in the ten stages and leads us from Trust and consent to our specific truth. Once we are present, we can need to learn other means of managing the feelings and thoughts associated with our recognised truthful memories.<br /><br />Every one is different. Dissociation identification will work for different people in differing ways.<br />-Moving from trust and consent often takes the form of focusing on the present by tuning into it via all our senses. For example, one meditational technique could involve focusing on a sound you hear right now, a physical sensation (what is the texture of the chair you are sitting on, for example?) and/or something you see. Describe each in as much detail as possible.<br /><br />-Diaphragmatic or deep breathing meditation: Childhood survivors often hold their breath or breathe very shallowly. This in turn deprives you of oxygen which will make anxiety more intense. Stopping and focusing on deepening and slowing your breathing can bring you back to the moment.<br /><br />-Relaxation letting go, guided ten stage study - We with dissociative mindsets are engaging in a form of self-hypnosis much of the time. The trouble is it appears out of our control, it is out of our control!But it is not out of the control of our child within. Our guides have become trained in Child within gentle meditation and can help teach you how to use dissociation in a way that works for us.  We build and develop a safe container for childhood memories in an awakened child within between sessions, create a safe or comfortable place (“safe” may not be a concept some of us can relate to or may be triggering to some) Contact with the child within we learn the ways to turn up and down the “volume” of painful feelings and memories locked away within us moving from anger to peaceful understanding.<br /><br />Meditation and child within contact and emotional management skills can help us proceed with the study of our child hidden within in a manner that is empowering instead of re-traumatising.</span>

Certainly, neuroscientists distinguish between the "reptilian" brain, the "mamallian" cortex, and the "primate's" neo-cortex.)<br />My question is: How is there some form of 'consciousness' built into the DNA that causes these developments to take place?<br />At the genetic level that DNA proteins form (from adenine, guanine, thymine and cytosene, as I remember from High School biology), we are very close in degrees of magnitude to the atomic and sub-particulate levels where quantum effects begin to be the determinative factors. As quantum "events," sub-particles continually flash into and out of 'existence' seemingly instantaneously.<br /> <br />Yet we "know" that a quantum event need an "observer" and "observation" in order to collapse the probability wave that is all - apparently - that is "real" in any sense before an initial act of "observation" takes place.<br /> <br />How is there an "observation" that collapses the "probability waves" of the particles and sub-particles from which DNA is constructed at an atomic level?<br /> <br />Of course, the biggest challenge for modern physics is probably how to square the quantum dynamics that can be observed at the microscopic and cosmic level with relativity theory that operates at the macrocosmic level. (I like to think, as Sri Ramakrishna observed, that "God is in the microcosmos and the macrocosmos," a conclusion Einstein would undoubtedly support.)<br />I can only conclude that there is a pervading "consciousness" throughout our universe that is, in a quantum theoretical sense, the "observer." The renowned physicist (spiritual seeker and colleague of both Einstein and Krishnamurti), David Bohm, as explained in "The Dancing Wu Li Masters," said that it makes absolutely no sense to talk about a quantum system that is smaller than the universe itself. It is all part of an explicate "Whole" beneath which an "Implicate Order" operates. This is, of course, the conclusion that Eastern yogis and sages came to many thousands of years ago. It is certainly the view of the Buddhist Abidharma which, while old, is not as old as the Upanishads that express this holistic and cosmic perspective quite clearly.<br />Or, as Krishna tells Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita (Chap.
